I definitely remember reading this as a kid。 There was an old witch’s house in my neighborhood that everyone was afraid of and we would hold our breath every time we drove past it。 I went back to that house a couple years ago and it had been knocked down and replaced with a new house。

The Berenstain Bear books were my favorite as a child and still are some of my favorite children books to this day。 This story is a typical one of a family of bears preparing for Trick or Treat night。 It has a lesson of "appearances aren't always what they seem" shown throughout the book。 It is a great read that children would absolutely love and relate to。 I think children could learn a lesson from this book and that to me is amazing。 The illustrations are great in all of the Berenstain Bear bo The Berenstain Bear books were my favorite as a child and still are some of my favorite children books to this day。 This story is a typical one of a family of bears preparing for Trick or Treat night。 It has a lesson of "appearances aren't always what they seem" shown throughout the book。 It is a great read that children would absolutely love and relate to。 I think children could learn a lesson from this book and that to me is amazing。 The illustrations are great in all of the Berenstain Bear books。 。。。more

It's Halloween time in the bear country。 Brother and sister bear are really excited as this is the first time they'd go trick-or-treating without an adult's supervision。 They will be going with three other kids and they make a map of which houses to hit。 They want to avoid an old spooky looking house where an old person, Miz McGrizz lives but mama tells them that appearances can be deceiving。 Sure, Miz McGrizz is old and bent but she isn't a witch。 All the kids end up at that spooky house and th It's Halloween time in the bear country。 Brother and sister bear are really excited as this is the first time they'd go trick-or-treating without an adult's supervision。 They will be going with three other kids and they make a map of which houses to hit。 They want to avoid an old spooky looking house where an old person, Miz McGrizz lives but mama tells them that appearances can be deceiving。 Sure, Miz McGrizz is old and bent but she isn't a witch。 All the kids end up at that spooky house and the old Miz McGrizz treats them with special Halloween apple candy。 It was another sweet story but it wasn't as compelling as the others that I have read。 Amazing pictures though。 3。5 stars 。。。more

Nice foreshadowing at the beginning with what Mama Bear said。

The story of this book lives up to Berenstain Bears expectations, however, the Read to Me portion that I had was poorly put together, The "music" that accompanies the reading is so loud that it almost drowns out the narrator。 Overall the story is great, just like any Berenstain Bears book。 The story of this book lives up to Berenstain Bears expectations, however, the Read to Me portion that I had was poorly put together, The "music" that accompanies the reading is so loud that it almost drowns out the narrator。 Overall the story is great, just like any Berenstain Bears book。 。。。more

another good book about all the bears and Halloween。 They are getting ready for Halloween and go out with there friends tick or treating。 when they meet a gang of other bears who go into the scary part of the country where they think a witch lives in an old creepy house。 the bear comes and and they go inside to find she isn't really creep after all。 but was rather really nice as she gave them all lovely apples。 lovely books for small children。 with lovely colour ful pictures all the way through another good book about all the bears and Halloween。 They are getting ready for Halloween and go out with there friends tick or treating。 when they meet a gang of other bears who go into the scary part of the country where they think a witch lives in an old creepy house。 the bear comes and and they go inside to find she isn't really creep after all。 but was rather really nice as she gave them all lovely apples。 lovely books for small children。 with lovely colour ful pictures all the way through the books。 。。。more

The Berenstain Bear books for the most part I still find pretty charming。 I read this one to my niece recently, and enjoyed it for it's nice message about not judging and for depicting an older "witch-like" lady as a really kind granny-type who likes to give away candied apples。 (I guess most parents would be a little leery of accepting homemade goodies from strangers today, but I think it's still a nice story。。。 oh, but I am not sure I like the idea of just letting a group of kids go out trick- The Berenstain Bear books for the most part I still find pretty charming。 I read this one to my niece recently, and enjoyed it for it's nice message about not judging and for depicting an older "witch-like" lady as a really kind granny-type who likes to give away candied apples。 (I guess most parents would be a little leery of accepting homemade goodies from strangers today, but I think it's still a nice story。。。 oh, but I am not sure I like the idea of just letting a group of kids go out trick-or-treating by themselves。 Seems a bit dangerous to me。) 。。。more

I'm a little conflicted about this one。 The writing is strong and the overall message about not judging others by appearances alone is a good one。 However, the premise seems a little dated and doesn't take into account today's dangers and realities。Brother and Sister go trick-or-treating without parental supervision for the first time。 Of course, the first thing that happens is that they run into some "bad" older kids who want to play a trick on the neighbourhood crone。 They approach her house, I'm a little conflicted about this one。 The writing is strong and the overall message about not judging others by appearances alone is a good one。 However, the premise seems a little dated and doesn't take into account today's dangers and realities。Brother and Sister go trick-or-treating without parental supervision for the first time。 Of course, the first thing that happens is that they run into some "bad" older kids who want to play a trick on the neighbourhood crone。 They approach her house, but before they can do anything, the old woman invites them in and gives them candy apples。 This is enough to convince all the kids that she's a good person。The scene where the old lady invites the kids in is way too reminiscent of "Hansel and Gretel" for me。 Of course, Mama knows that the old woman isn't a threat--in fact, she's the one who tells the cubs that appearances can be deceiving in the first place--but I'm not sure if kids will pick up on that or if they'll just see the cubs accepting candy from strangers, overriding their own gut instinct to be wary of odd adults bearing treats。This was probably a book that I read and enjoyed as a child。 I'm not sure if I like it as an adult, though。 I think it needs a bit of discussion on the side, especially about making the decision to enter a stranger's house when parents aren't around。 。。。more

One we must read before Halloween each year! A sweet story with a reminder not to judge a book by its cover。 My kiddo never tires of this wonderful bear family and all their adventures together。 I love the nostalgia!

The Berenstain Bears TRICK or TREAT By Stan and Jan Berenstain, published 1989。 “You must really try to remember, Papa,” said sister, giving her apple a little lick, “appearances can be quite deceiving。” There’s a good lesson to be learned from this little kids book。 Good pictures & a fun read for the whole family。 Perfect for getting in the Halloween/Fall spirit!

I still remember it as The Berenstein Bears。

One of the better Bears books, but it works out a little too conveniently。 It reminded me of my old scary neighbors growing up。 In this book, there's a happy ending, but in my life, the neighbors just called the cops anytime I tried to throw a party。 One of the better Bears books, but it works out a little too conveniently。 It reminded me of my old scary neighbors growing up。 In this book, there's a happy ending, but in my life, the neighbors just called the cops anytime I tried to throw a party。 。。。more

What a ride! This book has some amazing visuals and great humor。 However the theme gets a little lost during the story。 Lingering questions:Why did brother bear just go with the bad group of kids? Why are they allowed to trick or treat on their own when they definitely can’t handle it?Why in Bear land is their candy mostly fruit? Did their friends really lose them that easily? The moral of the story is don’t judge a book by its cover, but you probably should if Too Tall and the gang show up。 But What a ride! I haven't read a Berenstain Bears book in ages, so when I found this and knew that my one year old nephew wouldn't know it was the wrong season I read it to him。 It had the great pacing to conk him out 3/4 way through, but I read on because the story must be told! I loved it just as much as I remember loving many of their books。 As an adult, I still appreciate the humor, the great vocabulary and life lessons, as well as the overall moral to the story。 I haven't read a Berenstain Bears book in ages, so when I found this and knew that my one year old nephew wouldn't know it was the wrong season I read it to him。 It had the great pacing to conk him out 3/4 way through, but I read on because the story must be told!
